Marri Marcarelli
Vedic/Jyotish
My clinical training is in Psychodynamic Social Work, an approach that integrates elements of psychoanalysis and social work. In simple terms, our work focuses on helping you understand why you feel and react the way you do—how your history, relationships, and inner world shape your present-day patterns. Symptoms are not treated as random; they often carry meaning connected to personal history, trauma, and lived experience.
I also have a long-time interest in Jungian depth psychology and DBT-informed skills. Depending on what you’re needing, sessions can include insight-oriented work (themes, symbolism, dreams, the unconscious) and/or practical support for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and day-to-day stability. My goal is to meet you where you are—whether you need a supportive space after something triggering, or a more structured, goal-focused session.
Vedic Astrology Readings
For clients who resonate with symbolism and archetypal frameworks, I also offer Vedic astrology (Jyotish) readings as a separate, non-clinical service. In a Jungian sense, the chart can function like a symbolic map—highlighting recurring themes, relational patterns, strengths, growth edges, and (in longer sessions) life “chapters” through timing cycles (Mahadasha). My style is grounded and reflective: less “prediction,” more meaning-making and practical integration.
Vedic Reading Options
•30 min Chart Deep Dive — $165 •60 min Chart + Destiny Timeline (Mahadasha) — $185 •90 min Full Reading + Timeline + Karmic Lens + 3 Questions — $250Important: Vedic astrology readings are not psychotherapy and are not a substitute for mental health, medical, or legal care. Psychotherapy services are offered separately and scheduled/billed separately.

“Know all the theories. Master all the techniques. But as you touch a human soul, be just another human soul.” -Carl Jung
Marriana’s work lives at the intersection of science and story, where nervous system patterns meet the unseen narratives we carry. With a deep belief in the healing power of presence, she helps clients explore not just what is painful, but what holds meaning. She creates a space where emotions are not a problem that need to be solved, but rather information that carries insight into who we are. Her approach honors both the practical tools of modern psychotherapy and the quieter wisdom of symbols and archetypes.
She began her work over a decade ago on suicide prevention hotlines, later providing intensive in-home therapy to children and families in Detroit. She earned her graduate degree in clinical social work with an emphasis in psychodynamic theories from Wayne State University (2017) and opened The River Within in 2022 to offer a more personal, creative, and holistic space for healing.
She believes healing can’t be separated from the environments we live in: economic, political, spiritual, social, cultural, and familial systems shape how we move through the world and how we see ourselves.
Grounded in clinical social work, her practice draws on modern neuroscience and attachment research, combined with mindfulness and somatic tools, to support clients in regulating overwhelming emotions. At the core of her work is the question: What does this mean for you? This is where deeper symbolic and narrative work comes in- exploring the personal meanings beneath our patterns, pain, and desires, and helping each person reconnect with their own inner compass.
She splits her time between Naples, Italy and Ann Arbor, Michigan, offering telehealth sessions to teens and adults. In-person sessions upon request while in Michigan.
